Duir / Oak Archival Fine Art Print

Description

This fine art print reproduces my original painting, created using acrylic inks on paper. The print is created on paper with the same texture and finish as the original, which has a nice velvety appearance. This acid-free Giclée print accurately reproduces the original painting which now is part of a private collection. I painted the original artwork by hand without the aid of a computer, and this print is reproduced at the same scale as the original.

The artwork features a stylized oak tree with knotted branches and roots. The tree is flanked by two stags, and a leafy border frames the image. I created this original designs in 2000, and my artwork style is inspired by the manuscript art of early medieval Ireland, such as the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels. Duir is an Old Irish word meaning “oak”, and is the name of the letter “D” in the ancient inscribed alphabet of early Ireland called Ogham. Each letter in this early alphabet was named for a tree, and “duir” is an early cognate for the English word “door” – traditionally made of oak for the strength this wood offers.

This print is numbered in a true limited edition of 50 – each print is signed and numbered on the back. The print is 8″ x 10″, with room around the artwork to allow for matting – the tree portion of the print is 6 1/2″ high. The print is sealed in a clear bag and is carefully packaged and shipped in a rigid mailer with a cardboard support.
