Hand Carved Basswood Loon with Celtic Spirals – available via special order.
Description
This hand carved loon sculptural piece is created from my original design, carefully carved from a piece of basswood. This loon is made to sit on a mantle over a fireplace or on a shelf, and reflect the serenity of loon quietly gliding across the surface of a lake.
This carving measures 14 1/4″ long by 5 1/4″ high, and is 7/8″ thick, allowing it to stand on its own on any flat surface. It is hand painted with lots of details, to reflect the mesmerizing pattern of the loons coloring. It is sealed with a matte finish, allowing the light to pick up the texture of the hand carved details. My stylized design adds a Celtic flair, incorporating spiral motifs on the cheek and wing.
The carving has my carved signature on the back (LL 23) and is also signed, dated and numbered on the bottom edge. This loon is #2 in the collector’s series.
The loon has always been special to me, having lived in the lakes region of NH, and I have often heard the soulful call of this iconic resident.
