Heart is Home

I recently completed this piece, working outside the Alchemy Notebook for a change.  It is a collage done on Strathmore 500 bristol board, using engraved illustrations from old books.  The media used includes liquid acrylic inks, Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils, Prismacolor watercolor pencils, and metallic acrylic inks.  The image is 5″ by 5″ square.

This piece is a part of the Love, Lust and Desire show currently running at the McGowan Fine Art in Concord, NH.  You can read more about the show HERE.

  1. Hi Paul – the symbols are an encrypted alphabet that I have used in my artwork for a number of years. The letters are adapted from a 16th century alchemist’s alphabet – designed to keep his alchemical writing secret. Sometimes I use the alphabet as a simple substitution – so “a” equals “a” in the alchemical alphabet. But sometimes I use the wheel you saw to mix things up a little more so that it is more of a challenge to decipher.

    Thanks for your comment!

  2. Your work is very beautiful and inspiring.
I’m curious about the language used on the pages (the symbols). I have seen that you have a wheel of them, how does these letters corrospond in english? The meaning of the words has been annoying me for a while 🙂 I really want to know.

  3. Thanks Victoria for sticking with NWD – that was a very long dry spell!

Chris – hope you got a chance to see the show. McGowan is a wonderful little gallery, and the show was a lot of fun – something different to see every time you go in. Thanks!

  4. I am so glad to see your new work! I missed it thoroughly since the Ninth Wave store closed. Been following your stuff for ages.

  5. I love your art and I love your site… I only live 90 minutes from Concord so I will have to check out that show!
